Duke vs. Fusileer -
07-09-2008, 05:15 AM
((I apologize for the wait. Let's see how this goes. Also, this will be a very short post.))
Flat. Very flat. It was upon this flat surface that the man Seraphin d'Artagnan sat, a pile of sand resting at his feet. They had been instructed to fight, and so fight he would. He did not know who his opponent was, simply that he would be powerful. Seraphin grinned. Power was relative, and easily removed. Off in the distance, he saw his challenge approach, a dim silhouette on the horizon. The fight would begin soon.

The heat was intense.
The sun's fury beat down upon the earth and the morning warmth had quickly evaporated into an incredible heat.
The figure was quite tall, dressed in light blue and gold coloured robes that gently floated in the air behind him, but his chest remained uncovered, revealing tanned skin draped upon bone that shimmered with sweat.
Wooden sandals were on his feet and he carried a mere walking stick, at the top of it - the hooked bronze model of a snake's head.
As he drew in closer towards his opponent, the mask would become more clear.
It was a white mask made of some sort of metal - a small hole for the mouth to emit words and a very narrow slit for the eyes.
The mask was decorated with a holy cross stretching from the top to the bottom - beneath the left eye to beneath the right eye.
His hair was noticeably blonde at shoulder-length as he stopped before the opponent.
Taking in a breath he said:
"Seraphin d'Artagnan."
The voice was relatively deep and echoed slightly from the mask.
"You won't know me, but, I do remember you. But that does not matter. The House of the Basilisk Faction wishes to grant both of us luck within the fight to come. Two warriors. Two factions. Yet only one can win. Only one can live."
Swinging his walking stick before his body, his head rotated to the left slightly.
"I am Kulm Portsein. It hurts me to say that to you again, but..." Kulm's mask remained motionless. "This is my final mission. I've lived for the Basilisk Faction all my life. It would be an honour to die for that cause."

Seraphin stirred the sand with his fingers, not bothering to look at the man. He drew a few stray grains in to the air, letting them twirl around his fingers in a complex dance, two electrons of an atom orbiting their nucleus. He let the grains fall back into the pile, the small dots of sand rolling down until they touched the earth, causing the carefully constructed mountain of sand to collapse with the force exerted by those two grains. Seraphin now looked at the man. Intimidation was such a wonderfully overused tactic, and for Seraphin d'Artagnan, the art of intimidation had lost all meaning. There were ways to tell how powerful a man was, ways that were far more accurate than appearances. His gazed drifted from the faceless warrior who had approached him back to the pile of sand. With slow, deliberate movements, he placed the collapsed pile back into a nearly perfect cone, the sides uneven, as nature determined it, but still a wonderful shape to be used. From the top he removed a single grain of sand, and held it up to the man. After a few seconds, he dropped said grain on to the top of the pile, causing it to collapse, the crystal and rock sliding to the ground in front of him.
"Sir, do you know the significance of this event?" Seraphin asked, reconstructing his pile once more, still refusing to look at the man who approached him. He chuckled a bit, taking a single dot, a single molecule of the sand, and let it rest on his finger. "I will tell you sir. A single grain of sand, weighing far less and carrying far less energy than the pile, is able to destroy the structure of the pile, simply by dropping on it. Now, do you understand the significance of the event?" He pulled the sand from the earth, letting the grains coat his arms. The single grain was his finger suddenly became the focus of the grains of sand, a ball slowly forming, twirling and compressing as Seraphin poured his will in to his creation, his manipulation. The ball shrunk, the molecules closing together, the space between the atoms, electrons, neutrons, and protons slowly collapsing, until the structural integrity of the sand had become altered, separating in to several spheres incredibly dense and incredibly small, twelve spheres total. Seraphin chuckled once more, and waited for his opponent to make the first move.

Kulm nodded.
Looking up to the air, he shouted:
"LORD. GIVE ME STRENGTH TO FIGHT THIS LAST BATTLE."
With that, the snake head on his walking stick glowed blue.
In an instant, Kulm twirled up into the air - his robes almost dancing in the air.
The stick soon began to melt into a peculiar substance and reformed into that of a long, heavy sword - right in his hand.
"May luck fall upon you."
With that, he flung the sword towards his opponent.
In mid-air, it melted once more and seperated into several small daggers that headed towards the orbs.

As the sword melted, the orbs responded by shattering, spreading out like a cloud of dust, clinging to the daggers as they fell. It was only a minor adjustment on each of the daggers to send them in to the ground, the tips of the blades striking the earth. Seraphin stood up amongst the center of the daggers, then jumped horizontally away from the area where they had landed, his feet planting solidly on the ground roughly 30 feet from where he had begun. The sand retreated once more to his grasp, twirling around his hand, almost mocking the challenger. At a molecular level, the sand had been crushed, now simply various forms of silicon grouped together, collectively known as "sand". Absolute control over and object was power, and there was nothing Seraphin enjoyed more than power. He snickered, looking at the man's shadow, rather than his face. "Is that your power? Wonderful, my friend, wonderful." He let the sand compress around his hand, then released it in to a microscopic cloud around his being.

"I must say that I've never seen you do this before..." Kulm gave a flick of the wrist and the daggers melted once more and slithered at incredible speed along the floor, up his robes and collected into his hand, only to reform as a spear. "It's impressive. And powerfull..."
The masked figure bowed down - in what seemed like respect.
"It is, indeed, an honour."
Then part of the spear melted away and rolled along his arm. The liquid was jet black and covered his skin and robes, slowly seeping over every inch of skin and material.
"This was given to me by my father." Kulm stated as it wrapped around his neck. "It's an incredible thing. Yet only one with incredible strength of body, mind and soul can control it."
Soon it covered everything except his white mask, yet still he stood in his bowed pose.
"It's what father used to call - an infant of the black holes."
He then stood up, spear still in his grasp.
"In other words - its a star. A black, dead star. So much energy.... So much... Power..."
Standing at full height, Kulm gave an echoed chuckle from beneath the mask.
"But I haven't even reached a whole 1% of its potential use. Even the legends of the past say that only one managed to control 5% of its power. And with that 5%, she unlocked great things... Great things that soon turned to the stuff of nightmares..."
Taking in a deep breath from within the shield around his face, he gave out a single burst of laughter.
"So come on, Seraphin!"
With the power of the external skin, Kulm leapt up high into the air - too high.
1,000 feet up in the air, Kulm could see across the entire field and beyond. He could just about see the sea shore far ahead - but that was too far away to fight. Out of bounds. They werent allowed to be seen fighting. No witnesses. No rumours. No problems.
Falling back down to earth, the external skin formed a type of spring on his feet.
The spring touched the ground and gave great support to his body as it slowly melted away. The feet touched the ground.
"Well? COME ON!"
With another burst of energy, Kulm leapt up into the air - only 500 feet this time, and awaited his competitor's next move.

A laugh, starting with a chuckle, then slowly but steadily grew in to a howl of laughter. The sand gathered in to a ball, flying near the man who wielded the powers of the cosmos, slowly compressing, glowing as the molecules began to collapse. Seraphin stared up at the man. "My friend, there is only so much power matter can stands before it begins to break down. Life is a continual balance between the push and the pull. As you can see, the pull is now taking control of my little pile of sand." From a cluster of molecules, to broken down atoms, to hydrogen, to a mash of protons, neutrons, and electrons, and to it's final stage as a small black dot, absorbing matter nearby, growing in size as the world around it began to collapse. "You see, my friend, the density of a star is wonderful, enough to have the gravity to break atoms apart, then to break electrons apart. Gravity, I am afraid, does not limit it's consumption simply to what it wants to consume, nay, Gravity enjoys the right to absorb all that it wishes, much like my little cup of sand is doing now." He began to laugh again, the cup of sand now the tiniest of black specks, but despite it's size, it still had the gravitational force to pull in matter from both Seraphin's opponent and the atmosphere around the man with the white mask.
Seraphin paced back and forth, letting the black hole that he had created begin the process of killing the man, who must be immobilized by it's immense gravity. "You see, friend, while we walk on this planet, we weigh what we weigh now. Our bodies have adapted to that. But even you, who has the power to jump one hundred times the height that I may jump, does not have the power to even so much as move under a gravitational pull that is several billion times stronger than what we stand under now. In short, you are incapable of moving, incapable of attacking, and incapable of living." Seraphin bowed, shifting the black hole towards the man, the tiny speck now the size of a bowling ball. Light slowly began to fade as the photons were absorbed by the sheer force of the newly created Black Hole.
((Nice attempt, but you forget I have absolute control over my sand. Now, you are still bound by physics, so there really is no chance to escape at this point (especially since your "dead star" is being consumed by my ball of sand turned black hole). If you can think of a way to escape this, bearing in mind that the gravitational force of a black hole is so great that it can absorb the sun within a matter of minutes (if placed directly against the sun), then feel free to. If not, I will enjoy your death post.
P.S. No, this isn't godmodding. This is physics. Sand is matter, I have control of the sand, therefore I have control of the matter. If I have control of the matter, then I can simply cause it to break down, turning it first into plasma, then into a black hole, which is a self-sustaining system.))

Kulm stayed silent, then took in a deep breath.
"Well, if you want it that way..."
The black skin around him quickly dripped off him - still in mid-air - and joined as one, slowly starting to rotate and throb.
"I suppose it was inevitable for my orbs to reach this stage - but sheesh - I never knew it would be this soon. So congratulations, you've killed me, dear pupil, but alas, God is on my side and I shall regenerate in a few minutes."
Seraphin's black hole began to pull Kulm inwards.
"But let's fight fire with fire..."
The orbs then, with one deep groan of pressure - the orbs expanded - into another black hole, slightly larger than Seraphin's, and heading straight towards him.
Alas, Kulm got sapped into his own black hole - but Seraphin should have known he would return in a matter of seconds or minutes or hours.
With one last burst of oxygen, Kulm shouted:
"THE TRINITY"
Then he dissapeared into the blackness.
With Kulm "dead", his black hole continued to collide towards the other black hole.
Seraphin's control over his own black hole would soon be lost if the two got swept together - no sand - no power.
((Bit tired atm, sorry if it was a bit crappy))
